How Much Auto Insurance Do I Need for an ATV?

The amount of insurance you need to property cover your ATV depends on your state’s laws and rules about your specific vehicle. As of September 2022, Georgia separates ATV types in to three main categories:

  • Class I ATV: Width of 50 inches or less weighing less than 1,200 pounds with three or more non-highway tires.
  • Class II ATV: Larger than a Class I ATV, with a width of 65 inches or less weighing less than 2,000 pounds with three or more non-highway tires.
  • Class III ATV: Larger than a Class II ATV, weighing less than 8,000 pounds with three or more non-highway tires operated off a highway.

Georgia law requires ATVs to meet the state’s minimum auto liability limits when driven on public roads. Your agent may recommend that you purchase additional coverage, however.

What Does ATV Insurance Cover?

No matter what type of vehicle you have, whether you ride a 4-wheeler, dune buggy, or even a golf cart, you can get the ATV Insurance you want and the protection you deserve with specialized coverage options, including:

  • Collision Coverage—This helps cover damage to your ATV from rocks, trees, and other obstacles or debris.
  • Comprehensive Coverage—This helps provide extra security for loss or damage from theft, fire, or vandalism.
  • Property Damage—This helps cover expenses to another person’s property for which you are liable.
  • Bodily Injury—This helps pay medical expenses to others if you’re held liable in an accident.
    • Uninsured Motorist—This helps protect you from loss or damage caused by uninsured and underinsured riders.

How Does ATV Insurance Work?

    •

    • ATV insurance works a lot like auto insurance. Owning and driving ATVs can expose you to risk, so it’s crucial to have proper ATV insurance to help cover your legal liability and insure your property.

    • If you are in an accident resulting in damages or injuries, contact your agent right away. They can hep you file a claim with your insurance company. An adjuster from your insurance company will review any damages and determine your compensation based on your coverage, the loss type and your deductible.
